The lychgate to Altham churchyard was erected in 1930, part of the Pilkington bequest in memory of Alice Ann Pilkington. On the inside is the comforting inscription “The Lord preserve thy going out and thy coming in” from Psalm 121
This year, Sue Tinker and Cath Lawson have given new gates in memory of their dear parents, Gordon and Mildred Bertwistle. We are most grateful for this very generous gift which will remind us of the two longstanding and beloved parishioners. It is most appropriate that the gates have been installed this week and dedicated today as yesterday, 25th September, would have been both their birthdays.
