Open the book - dioceseOur team of would be actors visits Altham village school once each month to present a bible story in the form of a short play for the children. This replaces their normal school assembly and is part of an initiative by the Bible Society to bring bible stories alive for young children. St James, Altham has helped pioneer the introduction of “Open the Book” in the Blackburn Diocese. In addition to our nominated school, St James in Altham, we now visit three other schools . They are: All Saints, St Mary’s and Mount Pleasant in Clayton-le-Moors.

We would always welcome anyone who wants to join the team so that we are not too dependent upon the same people all the time, so please come along to a rehearsal and see what it’s all about . Phone Sue on 01282 413552 or email on for details.

We have enough schools now to fill the time available from our Open the Book volunteers, but we would be happy to visit any parishes who think that Open the Book might be something they would like to pursue, to show them how we got started, how we prepare for a performance, and how we bring the whole thing together. If you are interested phone Sue on 01282 413552 or email on
