Our social programme consists of a few regular yearly events with some additional ones thrown in, some of these are primarily fund-raisers and some just to get together and enjoy each other’s company.
We have a car boot sale when the days begin to get longer so that we can have an early morning start which of course includes Les’s famous bacon butties, much appreciated by stall holders and customers alike. The tables are set up on the Walton Arms Car Park where we get maximum kerb appeal.
During the summer we have in recent years had a barbeque when the men don their aprons and do the cooking.
Quiz Nights are popular with friendly banter and competition and a good supper. Again we are blessed with having The Walton Arms close-by to provide for our requirements. The Christmas Fair is another annual event which raises much needed funds for the running of the church.
During our 2012 celebrations we had a number of other events such as a brass band concert, a swing band concert with music provided by the acclaimed St. Christopher’s School musicians and an open weekend when church records were on view and guided tours provided. Some of these have continued or are set to do so in the coming months. The guided tours particularly, have become a feature and refreshments can be provided in church or arranged at the pub next door.
We have a close relationship with our day school and with our benefice partners at All Saints, Clayton-le -Moors and we support each other’s events making quite a full programme across the year.
We are always happy to see new faces and to have others get involved.
